Simple cooking ideas for everyday life
Michael (Mike) grew up in New York City and has always had a passion for cooking. One of his earliest cooking memories happened during a snowstorm when his mother was delayed getting home from work. Hungry and with no previous cooking experience, he used leftovers from the refrigerator to create his first dish, which he called Roast Beef Soup.
Michael later joined the United States Navy as a Mess Specialist (later renamed Culinary Specialist), beginning his professional culinary career. During his service, he worked aboard aircraft carriers feeding more than 5,000 personnel and frigates serving approximately 200 personnel. He also served as an instructor with the Navy Food Management Team.
One of the highlights of his Navy career was serving in the Flag Mess (Admirals Mess), where he refined his culinary skills and prepared meals for ambassadors, foreign dignitaries, kings, presidents, and First Lady Laura Bush.
Throughout his career, Michael became a Certified Executive Chef, served as President of the American Culinary Federation National Navy Chapter, and became the first Navy service member to compete in the Army culinary competition.
After 21 years of service, Michael retired from the United States Navy and continues sharing his passion for cooking through Mike’s Meals.
Mike’s Meals was created to share easy recipes, meal ideas, and practical cooking knowledge for people who enjoy preparing meals at home. The goal is to make cooking approachable, affordable, and enjoyable for everyone.
